1. Victoria Peak & Skyline Views

Victoria Peak is one of the absolute must do experiences in Hong Kong and offers some of the best views in the city. From the top, you can see the iconic skyline, Victoria Harbour, and the surrounding islands all in one frame. The experience begins with the Peak Tram, which climbs steeply through the city and feels like an attraction in itself.

To reach here, take the MTR to Central and walk to the Peak Tram station. The best time to visit is just before sunset so you can enjoy both daytime views and the transformation into a fully illuminated skyline at night.

This was easily one of the highlights of my trip. Watching the skyline light up slowly is something that makes Hong Kong truly unforgettable. If you have limited time in the city, this is one experience you should not skip. I have explained how to plan this in detail here: Day 3 - Hong Kong Island & Victoria Peak

2. Ngong Ping Cable Car & Big Buddha

The Ngong Ping cable car is easily one of the most scenic experiences in Hong Kong. The 25 minute ride takes you across mountains, sea views, and even gives you a glimpse of the airport, offering a completely different perspective of the city. Once you reach Ngong Ping Village, there are several attractions within walking distance such as the Ngong Ping Viewing Platform, the Big Buddha, and Po Lin Monastery.

To get here, take the MTR to Tung Chung station. From there, the cable car station is a short walk. Try to visit early in the day to avoid long queues and to get clearer views during the ride, especially if you are visiting in warmer months.

Visiting the Big Buddha felt peaceful and completely different from the busy city areas. This experience adds a great balance to your trip and is something I would highly recommend including in your itinerary. I spent a good few hours on Lantau Island, and have explained each attraction and how to reach them in detail here: Day 1 - Arrival & Lantau Island

3. Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the top attractions in Hong Kong and a must visit for both adults and families. The park is easy to navigate and offers a great mix of rides and shows.

You can reach Disneyland via the Disneyland Resort MTR Line. Arriving early helps you cover most rides comfortably. For a complete strategy, check my detailed guide here:Hong Kong Disneyland Guide

I was able to finish most rides by afternoon which made the day very relaxed. The fireworks at night were the perfect ending and made the visit feel complete.

4. Victoria Harbour & Avenue of Stars

Victoria Harbour offers one of the most iconic Hong Kong skyline views and is a must visit for anyone coming to the city. The Avenue of Stars is a long waterfront promenade where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the skyline stretching across the harbour.

You can reach this area via Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. The best time to visit is in the evening when the skyline lights up and the entire area becomes lively with people, street performances, and a vibrant atmosphere.

This was my first proper introduction to Hong Kong and it instantly set the tone for the trip. The energy of the city combined with the skyline makes this a truly memorable experience. I visited on October 1st during China’s National Day celebrations, and there were fireworks over Victoria Harbour which made the moment even more special.

5. Macau Day Trip

A Macau day trip is one of the most unique experiences you can add to your Hong Kong itinerary. Often referred to as the Las Vegas of Asia, Macau offers a fascinating mix of Portuguese style architecture, historic streets, and massive casino resorts. It feels completely different from Hong Kong and gives you a new perspective within the same trip.

You can reach Macau by ferry from Hong Kong in about an hour. Starting early in the morning is recommended so you have enough time to explore both the historic center areas like Senado Square and the modern Cotai Strip.

The contrast between charming old streets and over the top casino complexes makes Macau very interesting. I visited Macau on the fourth day of my trip and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences. If you are planning your visit, I have covered everything in detail here: Day 4 - Macau Day Trip

6. Visit Ozone Rooftop Bar

Ozone is one of the highest rooftop bars in the world and offers incredible skyline views. It is located at The Ritz Carlton in Kowloon. You can reach it via Kowloon MTR and then take a short taxi ride. Evenings are the best time to visit.

We planned the last dinner of our Hong Kong trip here. Ending the trip here felt like the perfect conclusion. The combination of views and ambiance makes it a memorable experience.

7. Explore Central & Mid-Levels

Central and Mid Levels showcase the modern side of Hong Kong with skyscrapers, cafes, and urban design. Walking here gives you a feel of the city's fast paced lifestyle. Reach Central via MTR and explore on foot. The escalator system makes it easy to move through different levels of the city. This area is best explored without a strict plan. It allows you to experience the city in a more natural way.

8. Monster Building

Monster Building is a famous residential complex that became popular due to its unique and dense architecture. The towering buildings create a visually striking courtyard that is often seen in photography.

You can reach it via Quarry Bay MTR station and walk a few minutes. It is best visited during the day when lighting is good for photos.

While it is interesting to see, I personally felt it is more of a quick stop rather than a must do experience. If you have extra time or enjoy photography, it is worth visiting.
